“This Thanksgiving, I ask every family to say a prayer for the two great heroes.”
On Wednesday, two West Virginia National Guard members were shot near a metro station a few blocks away from the White House. Jeffery Carroll, an executive assistant D.C. police chief, said “It appears to be a lone gunman that raised a firearm and ambushed these members of the National Guard.” Other troops in the area were able to subdue the suspected shooter who was taken into custody. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “This was a targeted shooting.”
Both Guard members remain hospitalized in critical condition, receiving intensive care. President Trump addressed the nation Wednesday night saying “The hearts of all Americans tonight are with those two members of the West Virginia National Guard and their families. The love of our entire country is pouring out for them, and we are lifting them up in our prayers.” He thanked all deployed United States military, at home and abroad, as well as the Secret Service and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their work. Closing his remarks, President Trump issued a heartfelt appeal to the nation: “This Thanksgiving, I ask every family to say a prayer for the two great heroes who were so horribly shot. And for their loved ones, please say a prayer. May God bless them and comfort them, and may God bless and protect the United States of America.”
In his Thanksgiving address to the troops, Vice President JD Vance reflected on their vital role, stating “I think it’s a somber reminder that soldiers, whether they’re active duty, reserve or National Guard, our soldiers are the sword and the shield of the United States of America.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- Pray for healing and strength for the two National Guard members injured in the attack.
- For the families of these soldiers and all who serve in the armed forces.
- For DOJ officials and law enforcement as they pursue justice and ensure the safety of our communities.
